She's Here!

Since my blood pressure was so high they went ahead and induced me. It didn't take much to get labor started and things went pretty quickly. Claire Elizabeth Williams was born at 10:21 pm on 6/7/2007. She weighs 5 lbs, 8 oz and is 19 inches long. She got a 7 and an 8 on her APGAR tests, and we were all really surprised that she pinked up and cried after she was born! (My stepdad could hear her from out in the hallway.)

The NICU team was ready to intubate her immediately after she was born, but since she was crying and breathing well on her own they held off. They did go ahead and put a tube down her throat to decompress her stomach to keep it from taking up more lung space. I got to hold Claire for a few seconds before they took her to the NICU. For the first hour she was on an oxygen mask/tent only, but then started really having trouble getting rid of CO2 so they intubated her and transported her to Children's Hospital.

They are going to do an x-ray to see how severe her hernia is, how many organs are in her chest and how big her lungs are. James is on his way over there now to see about her. My blood pressure is still really high so they are giving me magnesium sulfate via an IV (so I am stuck here for at least 24 hours).

Here are some more pictures of Claire.

I'm thrilled, absolutely thrilled!! I had to get up to let the dog out. Thought I would turn the computer on to see if there was any news. I'm so happy that she is here.

Take care, rest up and tell Claire that Cathy said welcome to the world.

Congratulations! We're so happy to finally get to see sweet Baby Claire. She's a cutie and good sized for being early. We pray that God will give the doctors wisdom to heal her little body. All of you are in our prayers.

We love you (especially new Baby Claire!) -

Oh my goodness! I'm so excited for you! I sure wish I could be there to see her. I feel for you with that magnesium crap. It made me so out of it. Carter slept for the first 3 days of his life because of it. Make sure you keep us posted on Claire's progress. Congratulations!!!

Welcome to the world, Claire! A 7 and 8 on her Apgar's? An overachiever already! Amazing. Cindy-I'm so happy for you that you were able to hold her for some precious moments.

Congratulations! Thanks for sending the e-mail. Glenn told us Claire had been born. I guess it goes without saying that we will postpone the shower. I'm sure you're going to be real busy this next week! We were trying to get the shower in BEFORE she was born, but I guess she has a mind of her own. Ha! If there's anything we can do, just let us know! "Better is a friend who is near than a brother who is far away."
Remember, we are still praying for you all. Mark, Linda, Austin, and Reba Johnson
